Early in the morning you will board a pressurized propjet aircraft bound for King Salmon. Upon arrival into King Salmon you will connect with your 20 minute scenic floatplane service to Brooks Lodge. After arrival at Brooks Lodge, and a safety briefing from park personnel, you will have the opportunity to visit the world famous Brooks Falls where brown bears feed and the friendly National Park Service rangers will point you in the right direction and answer all of your questions about this incredible park.

This is where the classic pictures of salmon jumping up a waterfall into a bear mouth comes from, here at Brooks Falls!  Located within Katmai National Park, this is in my opinion the best place in the world to view brown bears.  You may also witness a salmon run, a miracle of nature.

You and the bears are both roaming free here, so keep a good head on your shoulders and there is a good chance you will get the adrenaline pumping and some incredible stories to go with it.

How to get to Anchorage:

Anchorage’s airport (ANC) is served by most major American airlines. Non-stop flights are available from Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Denver, Taipei year-round, and more locations in the summer (Vancouver, Dallas, Atlanta).

If already in Belize City, you can take a 20 minute flight from the Belize City Municipal Airport (TZA) using Maya Island Air or Tropic Air to either island.
Or for a less expensive option you can also take a ferry from the water taxi terminal (about an hour, $20) or private boat.

Below was another fantastic moment I experienced from one of the three wooden viewing platforms– the young sow below was separated from its mother and was calling out– she came rushing through the woods to find it, as a male bear could easily have killed it.

The bears you spot may be from afar...

...or they may be closer, like the mother and sow that were walking down the same road I was!
