An alternate polar bear viewing experience, this one can be done with about three days in Alaska. You will be in the Arctic near the top of the world and in a real Eskimo village. There may even be opportunities to witness the aurora borealis and view polar bears swimming in the water. |

How to get to Fairbanks: Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) has direct flights from Anchorage, and is also sometimes served from Vancouver and Seattle. Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air and Era Aviation serve Fairbanks year round and are the primary air carriers. Delta Air Lines and Frontier Airlines operates in Fairbanks though their service is seasonal.
As weather can be very foggy on Barter Island at this time of the year, you need to spend at least one night in Fairbanks before leaving. If due to fog/weather your flight cannot leave that day, you will need to spend an extra night in Kaktovik and may return to Fairbanks only the following afternoon. Please take this into consideration when booking your flight out of Fairbanks. |

In the early morning and in the evening your guide will drive you to the bears and you will have plenty of opportunity to get pictures from the animals, and with some luck even of the Northern Lights. A recommended option would be to take a guided boat ride during the daytime to look for bears by water. |
